How do you manage stress?

It's 2pm on a Friday afternoon and I'm just sitting down to write my weekend wish email… an email I typically send out every Friday morning.

So normally, these get written earlier in the week.

But, this week hasn't gone as planned.

In years past, I would've felt stressed when things don't go as planned.

…Stress about the unexpected changes in my schedule that "set me back".

…Stress about an unusually full week of life...and wanting to be in more than one place at a time.

…Stress about not meeting the expectations I set for myself.

…Pressure with all the to-do's on my plate and not getting to them all.

...not to mention the house in disarray.

…and I would feel the pressure rising.

Do you ever feel like this?

Do you feel overwhelm when you feel like there's so much to do and not enough time?

Do you feel stress when things don't go as planned?

Do you feel stretched to be in more than one place at the same time?

If so, here's what I'm most curious about.

Who are you being when...

...you do not meet the expectation you set for yourself?

...when things don't go as planned?

...when you don't do the thing you wanted to do or said you would do?

...when the list doesn't get done?

...when you can't get to everything you set out to do?

Do you beat yourself up?

Do you push through at all costs?

Do you sacrifice sleep, self-care, breakfast, lunch, connection with loved ones, exercise, or being present?

Do you create more stress and overwhelm for yourself?

Are you impatient? …with your kids? …with your spouse?

There are a lot of ways we react or respond when we feel this way.

If any of this resonates with you, I'd love to offer you some questions today.

These are the questions I ask myself when things don't go as planned or when things aren't going the way I want them to.

  • Who do I want to be in this?

  • In this moment, can I allow it to be as it is without fighting it or arguing with it?

  • What does compassion (insert grace, kindness, love) look like - for myself (and others) - through this?

  • What is the bigger picture I might not be seeing in this moment?

  • How can I make peace with this?

  • What's beautiful about today?

Answer any one of these questions when you're feeling this way and notice what shifts for you (and within you). I’d love to hear.
