A Main Ingredient To Overcoming Overwhelm

Overcoming Overwhelm

Knowingness.

It's something I talk about in my Overcoming Overwhelm course.

The dictionary uses certain language for this word.

But for me and what I teach it's that knowingness is about who you are, who you desire to be, what you value, what's most meaningful to you.

What I've noticed with my clients - in my own life as well - is without knowingness, without clarity of knowing who you are, who you desire to be, what you value and what's most meaningful to you, you will undoubtedly find yourself in the infinite loop of life happening to you.

aka: Survival. Reactivity. Doing the same things over and over every day. Being pulled by the current, in any direction.

And you're waiting for life to slow down or circumstances to change in order for this life loop to stop happening to you.

The National Science Foundation released some research that said we think upwards of 60,000 thoughts every single day. Of those 60,000 thoughts, 80% of those thoughts are negative. 95% are thoughts we had the day before.

Read that again.

Why is this?

I believe it's because most of us run around from our mental conditioning, running around from thing to thing, without ever stopping to evaluate what we're thinking, what it's creating and knowing we have the power to change this for ourselves.

We keep thinking the same thoughts, feeling the same feelings, doing the same things.

And these thoughts, feelings and actions are on repeat again and again. Day after day. Year after year.

Without stopping to look at them and manage them, you will keep thinking the same thoughts, and over time, develop a belief these things are true for your life...

I'm so busy.

I don't have enough time.

I'm so overwhelmed.

My life is a mess.

My life is not my own.

It's never going to change.

When my kids leave the house, then things will change.

When I have more time, then I'll ____________.

So...

How do we make change for ourselves?

We need to manage our mind.

How do we begin to manage a mind that probably has never been managed?

Here's what I propose...

Run your thoughts through your filter of your own knowingness.

The knowing of who you are and who you desire to be, what you value, what's most meaningful to you.

And start surrounding yourself with support that instills this knowingness with and for you.

Without intention. Without knowingness. Without getting clear about how to think, feel, show up...

...you will find yourself stuck in the infinite loop of life happening to you (aka: the road to exhaustion and burnout!).

This work is foundational for overcoming overwhelm, and quite frankly, for changing any unwanted habits or experiences.

This work of knowing who you are, who you desire to be, what you value and what's most meaningful to you is what creates change.

The best ways I know how to do this are to first understand this concept of knowingness and develop the skills to move towards it.

One manageable step at a time.

And second, to understand the power of your thoughts and what those thoughts are currently creating.

And third, to understand you can choose different thoughts. You get to decide what you think about everything. You do not need to live into the statistic I mentioned above.

When you learn how to think differently....grounded in knowingness...you will overcome overwhelm (and so much more!).

If you take a moment to breathe into your own knowingness, ask yourself:

"Do I desire something different than what I'm experiencing right now?"

"If yes, could I use support to get there?"
